Common Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Injuries and Symptoms:

Regardless of how you feel, it's important to book an examination with your provider right away. You may have pain right away, or you may feel just fine. However, this can be caused by your body releasing adrenaline and masking your pain. These symptoms may change and continue to change for the next 2-3 months. According to the Government of Alberta, 9.5% of car crashes resulted in non-fatal injuries. The longer you wait, the worse your pain may be. It’s important to monitor yourself for any symptoms over the next few days and seek treatment as quickly as possible.

Some common injuries you may experience include:

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR VISIT:

FIRST APPOINTMENT - INITIAL EXAM

Your first appointment is an information gathering session that allows us to determine if you are a good candidate for Chiropractic care as well as the first treatment.  After the doctor takes a thorough history, you will undergo and examination that involves chiropractic, orthopedic and neurological testing.  Based on your history and examination findings, further testing may be required that could include imaging such as X-ray, MRI or ultrasound.  At the very least, on this first visit the doctor will offer self-help advice to lessen your pain and improve your mobility until you meet again.

SUBSEQUENT VISITS

Some conditions respond quickly to chiropractic, while others may take some time.  The doctor will try his best to get you back up to pain free, full movement status as soon as possible.  A typical treatment session involves manual methods such as spinal and/or extremity adjustments, soft tissue therapy including Active Release and other modalities, and in some cases, spinal decompression using specialized equipment to manage disc or degenerative conditions.  If manual treatments are not preferred or pain is too high, Activator treatment will be implemented. Remedial exercises are often introduced at the right time and further home care instructions will also be discussed.

THE REPORT OF FINDINGS

The doctor will discuss his diagnosis and review any other relevant testing data, such as X-ray findings.  He will tell you if Chiropractic care is the best option for your health concerns and exactly what treatment methods will be utilized.  If the doctor does not feel that chiropractic is for you, he will make the appropriate referral or recommendation.  At our clinic, we believe that an educated and engaged patient achieves their recovery goals much quicker and more completely.  In other words, you and the doctor will discuss what he can do for you and what you can do to help yourself.  This concept is central to any treatment program.
