New Patient Guide - What To Expect On Your First Visit At The Chiropractor:
First Appointment
Your first appointment is an Information gathering session, usually including Chiropractic treatment. We aim to learn the ROOT CAUSE of you pain, not just your symptoms.
When you walk in you'll be greeted and check in at the front desk. You will be given paperwork to fill out for basic contact/health information as well as a brief description of your issue for the doctor. You will also be asked to provide any health insurance you may have and we will do our best to direct bill for you!
Initial History and Examination
You will be taken back to a treatment room where the doctor takes a thorough history, you will undergo and examination that involves chiropractic, orthopedic and neurological testing. Based on your history and examination findings, further testing may be required that could include imaging such as X-ray, MRI or ultrasound.
The Report of Findings
Before administering treatment, the doctor will discuss the diagnosis and review any other relevant testing data, such as X-ray findings.
The doctor will tell you if chiropractic care is the a good option for your health concerns and exactly what treatment methods will be utilized. If the doctor does not feel that chiropractic is for you, he will make the appropriate referral or recommendation.
We believe that an educated and engaged patient achieves their recovery goals much quicker and more completely. In other words, you and the doctor will discuss what he can do for you and what you can do to help yourself. This concept is central to any treatment program.
Personalized Treatment
Now, in most cases if a diagnosis is clear, the chiropractic adjustments and other soft tissue therapies may be provided on the first day once consent is received. At the very least, if red flags are evident, on this first visit the doctor will offer self-help advice to lessen your pain and improve your mobility until the next visit.
Subsequent Visits
Some conditions respond quickly to chiropractic and require less follow up visits, while others may take some time. The doctors will work to get you relief and improvement movement as soon as possible.
A typical treatment session involves manual treatments such as spinal and/or extremity adjustments, soft tissue therapy including Active muscle release and other modalities, and in some cases, Spinal Decompression using specialized equipment to manage disc or degenerative conditions.
Exercises are often introduced when as needed and further home care instructions will also be discussed.
If you don't prefer manual adjusting, a "crack free" option with an Activator is available and can still provide relief.
After each subsequent visit the doctor will review how the treatment went as well as overall progress, and will advise you when and how often to return based on the initial treatment plan.

New Patient FAQs
1. What should I expect on my first chiropractic visit?
Your first visit includes check-in, completion of health and consent forms, a thorough history review, physical examination (including chiropractic, orthopedic, and neurological testing), and, in most cases, treatment on the same day once consent is obtained. If further imaging (like X-ray or MRI) is needed, we will discuss those options with you.
2. Do you direct bill to insurance?
Yes! We will collect your insurance information at check-in and will do our best to direct bill your provider. If you have questions about coverage, contact us prior to your appointment.
3. How long should I plan for my first chiropractic appointment?
First visits generally take longer than subsequent treatment visits. We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to complete paperwork, and plan for approximately 30-45 minutes for the paperwork, full initial assessment and treatment.
4. What if I’m nervous about manual adjustments?
We offer gentle and “crack-free” options, including Activator and other instrument-assisted techniques. We always tailor the approach to your comfort level and clinical needs.5. Do I need a referral from a doctor? No referral is necessary to see a chiropractor in Alberta. You can book directly with us. (This is standard chiropractic practice in Canada.)
